Montanans Defeated Arch Coal. Now Let’s Stop Dirty Coal For Good!

The Tongue River Valley, near where Arch Coal wanted to build the Otter Creek Mine

On Thursday, March 10th, the people of Montana accomplished something huge: thanks to years of grassroots organizing and pushback from communities across the state, Arch Coal canceled plans to build the largest new coal mine in North America. The Otter Creek Mine in Southeast Montana would have destroyed irreplaceable aquifers and agricultural land, while adding to coal train traffic through towns along Montana’s rail line and contributing to climate change.

We defeated Arch’s Otter Creek Mine: now it’s time to eliminate remaining coal projects in Montana and usher in an era of clean, renewable energy for everyone in our state.
